These are book jacket concepts for the Swedish crime novel series, The Millenium Trilogy. The main goals were to explore the digital collage medium as well as the usage of illustrative type.
Since the stories take place and address social injustices in Sweden, this series explores the stereotypical image of an idyllic Sweden juxtaposed with imagery that depicts the opposite. The translations of the Swedish titles were chosen, as they are more powerful and thought provoking. The concepts behind each illustration is simple, yet metaphorical, representing the main conflicts of each novel.
Parasomnia is a sleep disorder that affects many people worldwide, but it has been interpreted in a variety of ways based on different cultural beliefs. These are a few spreads of a book that explores some of the many cultural interpretations of this phenomenon. Each illustration utilizes imagery and objects from the culture that the myth originates from, giving the reader a sense of when and where they were created.
This illustration series won the 2013 Student Award and was published in the December 2013 issue of Applied Arts Magazine.
